The church in Thessalonica had begun under tense circumstances during Paul’s second missionary journey. The community of unbelievers continued to show hostility and contempt toward those Christians long after its founding missionaries left. Paul’s concern for these believers—and how much they meant to him personally—is graciously and poignantly captured in two letters of encouragement known to us as “1 & 2 Thessalonians.” Yet, while highly praising these people for their love, faith, and work, Paul also had to address those among them who were being irresponsible and taking advantage of others’ kindness. In doing so, he offers us an inside glimpse of his personal character and his role as an apostle.

Special effort has been made to show the relevancy and practical benefits of Paul’s epistles in contemporary Christian living. This study workbook is intended for both individual and group Bible studies.
